Planning Process for The Bat Mitzvah at The Graduate

Our planning process always starts with creating and budget and securing a venue. From there, we are able to then create a day’s timeline and room layout. With this information Lynette can get started on the remaining vendor recommendation hires using the timeline and budget she’s created, while Emily gets started on the design.

The Graduate and Day of Logistics

This venue is one of our favorite places to work at both during planning and design. For Maddie’s Bat Mitzvah at The Graduate, her family wanted an area for kids, socializing, and dancing while keeping the quieter dinner area separate. The Graduate has their main ballroom and a number of auxiliary breakout rooms near the Ballroom to allow for this type of event flow. Our team, impressively, flipped the entire dining room, alongside their staff, laying linens and centerpieces in just under 20 minutes. How’s that for efficiency?

From the Designer

This event was fun to design and posed a fun challenge to create a fun atmosphere that felt elevated without using any floral. Floral is one of our top design specialties so it was a fun, change-of-pace design to focus heavily on jewel-toned candle collections. We paired the jewel-toned linens and candle collections with the most incredible velvet soft seating vignettes from Modernly Events. Modernly is one of our very favorite rental companies to use for boutique rental items!

This once-in-a-lifetime private event was held at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan. This was the second event of the weekend! You can check out night one here. The night before was a classy, formal sit-down dinner event. Tonight, was all about the party! Guests were greeted with three beautiful registration tents and handed a glass of champagne. After checking in, they made their way through the Gilbert Pavilion Entrance of the Breslin Center. The sounds of a String Quartet played while they enjoyed appetizers and custom drinks. The MSU Hockey team was even serving apps on rollerskates!

Our design reflected a mid-century modern vibe with a nod to the 70’s. Reviews from guests who attended the event included, “The details, both large and small, were dazzling and magnificent…” and “Every detail was impeccable and no detail was forgotten.”

The Welcome

The Gilbert Pavilion + Tom Izzo Hall of History Design

This area had 3 bars, 2 photo booths, 4 soft seating sections, and plenty of cocktail and bistro tables for guests to sit down and enjoy the themed food station.

The Arena Details

After an hour and a half of mingling, guests made their way down to the area floor for more spectacular details! The step entrance was flanked by floral and wood arches to indicate the entrance to the arena.

The Stage Details

40 feet of color-blocked floral sat on custom planter boxes to line the stage! We also had custom neon letters, showcasing the school years. One of the best moments was the attendees pulling our roses from the stage and handing them to The Temptations while they performed!

We chose to have 3 themed bars that were a slight nod to the entertainment that night. A fire bar, a stone bar, and an ice bar. They were such a hit!

The Floral and Design Details

We surrounded the large custom-designed and wrapped dance floor with endless soft seating and 4 large pergolas with even more soft seating underneath. We brought in 194 potted plants to create a cozy environment.

Plenty of mixed seating included round tables, banquet tables, and bistro tables for all party sizes.

No two centerpieces were alike! Each one was created by our floral team, who were given the freedom to design whatever their heart felt like. Which, made this event extra special!

We brought in 3 different custom-wrapped cocktail tables which had each of the schools’ mascots on top.

Signage + Stationery

All of the signage was custom and designed in-house! Guests had the opportunity to visit 7 different food stations throughout the night.

There are so many more little details that came together to make this day so special for the attending guests. The custom food menu brought the guests back to their high school glory days. Custom tokens for the guest to take home at the end of the night! The list goes on and on. Guests danced the night away to Three Dog Night AND The Temptations! Even our team was able to meet the bands and enjoy the concert. A core forever memory if you ask us!

This monumental event was 3+ years in the making and we are forever grateful to have played such a pivotal role in this event.

Our team had the privilege of being the planner and design team for this private social event. It was a wild ride, three years postponed, but we are so happy with the results. This event was a 50-year high school reunion. We kicked off this two-day event with a more formal, sit-down dinner on Friday night. Classmates could mingle and enjoy each other’s company before dancing!

The Welcome

Guests entered down a long hallway so we wanted to ensure their entrance was bold and beautiful!

The Bar and Dance Floor Details

We created mixed seating around the bar and dance floor. With lounge furniture, bistro tables, cocktail tables, and tall banquet seating. Something for everyone.

The Dinner Details

Guests enjoyed a three-course meal for dinner. After dinner, there was a short presentation honoring classmates and teachers.

It may have taken us 3 years to make this event happen, but it was so worth the wait!

Stanley Cup Floral Design | Munn Ice Arena | East Lansing, MI | January 4th 2019

So you can imagine my excitement when my new assistant’s dad is none other than the MSU Hockey coach. Not only that but he was a former NHL player, and Stanley Cup WINNER. Ok, this was all almost too much for me, and THEN Ashton came to work one day and said, “Hey, what do you think about designing flowers in the Stanley Cup?” Errrrrrr…….girl, what?! I about fell to the ground. Are you insane, how in god’s name would that possibly happen She hadn’t asked her dad yet, but was planning to upon finding out that Lord Stanley was making a visit to Munn and we may have the opportunity to get private access before the team and public. So the answer was a yes. 

We were able to completely custom design whatever florals we wanted. Since it was a passion project, we had full creative control. We are talking hours to decide on a color palette. This was due to the diligence of Ashton’s brain always wanting to do bigger and better by AGE. The graciousness of the Cole family for allowing us to live out this dream I never thought would be a possibility.  We designed on a primarily white color palette with pops of green, black, and silver. Then, I sprayed half-styled silver anthurium and added in shamrock ranunculus. The first foray into using bleached ruscus, and popped in some panda anemones, scabiosa pods, and veronica for texture.

The icing on the already sweet, sweet cake of designing florals for the Stanley Cup was that Caroline, Tyler, and my mom could join in on the photoshoot with the greatest sports trophy to ever exist. Thank you to Ashton, Danton, and all of the Coles for your graciousness and for being the reason for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to come to fruition.

We love hosting any Michigan State University Corporate Event! When the MSU Broad College of Business approached us to provide all of the floral and design for the events surrounding the Minskoff Pavillion unveiling, we couldn’t jump at the opportunity fast enough! Most notably, we did a bespoke, sophisticated design for the Alumni and Donor Dinner.  Although I didn’t graduate from the MSU Business College specifically (though in retrospect I probably should have), anything MSU is near and dear to our green hearts at All Grand Events + Floral.

Design:

Here’s the amazing thing about corporate events, we get a LOT of freedom to design. When we have an initial budget and color palette, we have to order custom-made linens for 2 of the 3 events we designed. We get to design what centerpieces we want (as long as they are green and white; duh?), what table numbers were used, and actual flower choices within each centerpiece.

The Greenery Columns

My absolute favorite part of the whole design was two freestanding greenery columns flanking the entryway (looking good, Sparty!) Our client asked if we could provide lit trees for the entryway, and I instead suggested these showstoppers! We covered the chicken wire-covered pipe & drape poles in gorgeous Southern smilax from East Texas Smilax, then popped in, bleached Italian Ruscus, sword fern, and white snowberry on site. They were truly remarkable and were very unexpected for the guests as they walked in.  The nice thing about freestanding columns like these is that they are relatively mobile with the correct tools. Something like this could easily be transported from an entryway to a stage, or from a ceremony site to a reception site for dual-purpose use.

Takeaways from this stunning, corporate event: 

1. It is possible to make table numbers large and clear without having them overwhelm the entire tablescape design.
2. It is possible to take an idea like potted trees with string lights and reimagine it. It might be something people will remember and talk about for years to come. 
3. It’s amazing when your client tells you guests from your event were saying this was like their dream wedding.
4. It’s so important to make sure you get photos of your corporate events. For this event, we brought in Cayla from Johnson Photography. She was incredible, and so are her photos. A lot of corporate events have photographers. However, their sole job is to capture images of the guests and the speakers. Floral event designs will never be captured other than in the background in most circumstances.
